Beckley Harvesting

There’s something to be said for lazy summer days, those days when all you do is stay home, relax with the kids, and enjoy the easy pace of summer.

Today was one of those days for me. The kids and I never left the house, didn’t do anything special, and did nothing important. But somehow, I think these kind of days are vastly important. It’s nice to sit back and appreciate life, even the boring parts.
So our boring things today included vacuuming, doing dishes, reading, having a tea party, and nap time.
Nap time is my favorite.

The kids play outside a lot, of course. They have a sand box full of green sand, and every time they play outside, our entire porch turns green. Our pool turns green. Their hands turn green. Michael’s mouth turns green. They also had popsicles again today, too, and then they turned orange. Their clothes were orange. Their towels were orange. Michael’s mouth was orange. We took supper to the field tonight–spaghetti. Guess what color the kids turned after that. Basically, my children looked like tiny Oompa-Loompas.

On a more serious note, we learned this evening that Alan Funk, of Funk Harvesting, passed away yesterday of a heart attack. They are living in the same trailer park we are, so I may try to go over in the morning and offer to cook for their crew until things get settled down for them.
I guess there’s something to be said for lazy summer days, enjoying life, because you never know when that last day will come. I’d much rather be here with my family, raising my children, than be anywhere else in the world. Because while I may not have done anything important, I spent it with the most important people.

Even if they do tend to change colors.
