Spring Valley Farms Inc

Our cutting started mid morning and we have finished two fields so far. We are very happy with the yields of those 2 fields! I love figuring the tickets! Book work is one of my favorite things to do!

Early morning unloading of wheat cut night before.

This morning I headed over to take 5 minutes to see my husband and visit about the day. He was unloading the trucks from the last cutting from the night before. This year, although it is a hectic time, I feel more included than ever before which is a great thing. Coming from a wife that doesn’t do a great deal on the farm activities, it makes a big difference.

Before heading off to my “town job” I packed the guys sack lunches. Honestly I hated leaving. I wanted to be helping as much as I could. And I only had to work half a day this week so it ended up being okay. I was able to run to the store because first thing this morning I ran out of ink on the printer. We need scale tickets and, of course, I need to be able to print them! Picked up some fresh produce while at the store too!

I could tell you I’m just chilln’ but that’d be a lie!

The day was hot and steamy, hitting 103 degrees. Lots of water and the Frogg Toggs helped me to get through! I came home about 1:15 to start weighing trucks again. We were able to cut about 80 acres. That’s all because about 5:30 pm we started getting hit with a thunderstorm. By the time we got the combine and trucks home it was in a downpour with tiny hail and wind. So we were done cutting for the day. The lightning was our entertainment for a couple hours because when we got into the house the electricity went off! Good thing I had that tator tot casserole in the oven already and it was done! As I write this at 9:45pm it is still lightning like crazy and thundering. I snapped a couple pictures of the view from my house. The night sky was pretty cool.

So it looks like we might be kept from cutting very early tomorrow. The hubs and I will make our way to pick up soybean seed as not only is it harvest season for us, but planting season too! Until tomorrow hope you all are enjoying the updates!
