Spring Valley Farms Inc.

Well we wrapped up our 12th day of wheat harvest today. The end is in sight but this farm wife is ready right now for it to be done! I’ve reached that point. I get here every year. It will pass but I’m sure some of you can relate!? Don’t leave me alone out here ladies!

I got a box full and stopped by the field to drop a couple off to the hubs. I think he enjoyed them! Then I headed home to start laundry, water the yard, pick some peas from our garden, make Apricot jam, and prep the guy’s lunches. The menu was simple tonight because, to be honest, I’m tired of cooking. That says something because I really do like to cook! We had hamburgers, chips, fruit, and cake. Lunch was leftovers but I think they were all okay with that. Tomorrow’s menu is fried chicken legs, pasta salad, and it’s 11:00 am and I just finished baking a (frozen) cherry pie. Our daughter had a softball game tonight so we didn’t get home until 10:00 pm so I’m way out of my routine! I have lunches prepped for the most part for tomorrow, I have my town job to attend to the next couple days. So I am trying to get ahead of the game!

It looks as though we only have about 60 acres left to harvest. My husband planted some corn under the center pivot today, it will be used for silage this winter to feed cattle. That is if we take that leap once again! Ouch – this past go around! He will begin planting soybeans in the wheat fields we just harvested. One of his brothers has been helping by driving combine and truck. We also have one other guy that drives truck but we have a new one starting tomorrow as the first one has other commitments. This year has been different since Milton’s father is unable to assist us. But all in all I think it has went good. I’ve been busy figuring grain tickets as they finish a field, this is one of my favorite things to do.
