Deibert Harvesting (JKD Inc)

Today started off pretty darn well with a few extra hours of sleep. I got to catch up on some book work that needed to be done, while the guys changed oil in trucks and powerwashed them as well. I can’t lie, I was pretty spoiled today because the guys did my oil and got my dull purple truck all sparkly and shiny again!

Around five, the humidity dropped a little bit and we started cutting. We were hanging in there around 14.5% moisture and then tried another field that went in a little of 17% (oopsy daisy). The elevator’s cut off is 15% so we needed to pull the plug and got an early night in.

Although we couldn’t make tracks in the field, Turk took me up for the first time to make tracks in the sky! It was the first time since he has gotten his pilot’s license to fly and first time having someone other than a pilot being a passenger! If you don’t know me, let me tell ya…if we are driving perfectly in a car I freak out, so Turk was pretty skeptical about taking me up. When we first got there, he wanted to take a practice round first by himself. Just before taking off, Turk was telling me to not scream and showed me that you couldn’t fall out with the seat belt on, and then proceeded to say, “So the only thing you need to worry about is if I bail out, you better bail out too.” I thought we would both have no hearing when the flight was over, but I didn’t scream once!! This is a good thing because I had so much fun that hopefully he will take me more! We did see some other farmers and harvesters that did get to cut, and flew over the shop.
