07/23 & 07/24/16 – Murdo, South Dakota

Erica Brown – Brown Acres Custom Harvesting

Saturday, 07/23/16
It was a late start in the field due to rain. We started moving the rest of the equipment towards Pierre in the morning. The other combine crossed through the river with no troubles.

I started a roast in the Crock-Pot the night before and cooked the rest of our sweet corn for dinner. It happened to work out that we were able to eat lunch in the camper while moving equipment.

It was a frustrating day with hydraulic oil. I don’t remember ever having so many issues with hydraulics. We only needed one machine and had a hard time keeping one machine running. They were both going by the evening.

I picked up pizzas in Murdo from Prairie Pizza for supper. They have cinnamon in the outer crust and give you icing to dip it in.

Sunday, 07/24/16
We had rain overnight plus more rain later in the morning and we were still able to harvest in the afternoon. We finished up harvest in the area at sunset. Normally we head home from here, but have a few weeks before harvest at home. The combines will be cleaned up and moved to a better location since rain is predicted for the rest of the week. We’ll start the process of moving equipment north on Tuesday.
