Nothing like the feeling of heading “home”

There is nothing like the feeling of heading “home”.  I’m sure you’re thinking… didn’t I read a post about “them” heading to Canada like a month ago??? True, true, yes we did cross the border into Canada on August 1st (our earliest yet in 19 years) and, yes, we’ve been back at Hodgeville to the home farm a time or two to check on “things” but most of our time while being in Canada has been in the Weyburn area. Well TODAY I am bringing my camper (or our summer home) “home” and there is nothing like that feeling!

Heading home August 25, 2017

We had a wonderful 25 days at Weyburn. Lynn (our farmer’s wife) and I worked side by side in preparing food for the crew and it was awesome to add a few new harvest ideas and recipes to the repertoire. She has the best dessert recipes!

We are super proud of our kids taking on new responsibilities this past couple of weeks. Tyson has been home swathing canola for us while Rhett has been cooking for him! There is nothing like learning life skills that will only help to build character! We love their willingness to help out and…did I mention how proud I am of them?

So even though I’m very happy about heading home, there is an element of sadness, as well. Harvest at home feels a bit different than it does on the harvest trail. There are so many added responsibilities, summer is ending, school is starting, there is food preservation to be done as fall and winter are in the near future. But let’s not concentrate on that, I want to remember all the wonderful memories of #harvest17 and focus on the feeling of coming “home”.   Wishing you a wonderful day and a prosperous fall harvest!
