It started innocently enough…a project that was only supposed to take a few days, maybe a week.
It’s amazing how one little project snowballs into so much more. A month later, we’re almost done!
The flooring in our boys’ crew camper needed to be replaced, and it all went smoothly at first.
Anders got the old flooring torn out in no time. We decided to take advantage of the situation and get the walls sanded and painted. Believe me, they needed a little attention. I foolishly thought the sanding, taping and painting would only take a day or two. (Ha!)
Since the walls were being repainted, Anders moved some of the electrical outlets and redid some of the wiring. (What’s a little more work, right?)
With the painting and electrical work done (for now), the new sub-floor and new flooring is laid and the trim is back in place.
While this would’ve been a good place to conclude our updating, we just couldn’t stop ourselves. The windows have always been a bit of a pain. When the camper was built (not by us) they installed crank-out windows. Over the years, we’ve found that if we move on a really windy day and the wind is out of the right direction, they can come open. Even if they’re locked.
It’s worth mentioning that during all of this, we took my 86 year-old grandmother to Denmark and Germany. It was her first trip to Europe and we had a ball! This added about two weeks to our project, but it was well worth it. (I’ll save those pictures for another post.)
What better time to replace them than now?
The new windows look great! (Especially when the green painters tape is removed!)
And while we’re at it…
We added an amp and volt meter to the electrical box so we can see the power being drawn and if the voltage is correct. This is especially handy at trailer parks where their electrical boxes aren’t kept up very well.
Thankfully we got it finished just in the nick of time. The first 4 guys fly in tonight and the crew camper is set up and ready to go another season!
