An Agricultural Superhero

Do I look like a farmer yet?

Stephanie Osowski – Olson Farms

Second post in my HarvestHER blogger career. 🙂

Can’t leave my apartment without this baby stuffed full of coffee!

There are two of us that work for this particular farm. This other guy is pure townkid — closest he’d been to a tractor was driving by one along the highway. He was amazed that they had AC and a radio. Now I’m not making fun whatsoever (even though I can’t lie, I did laugh when he said that) but, isn’t it crazy how those of us who grew up involved in and around agriculture take for granted that not everyone did? He’s going to school in the fall to be a lawyer so if you need a guy, I’ll know a guy in a few years!

Got to plant a little wheat!

Speaking of the radio, it usually annoys me after about two weeks of it being my main sidekick during a working day. Probably because they end up playing 1-8 songs incessantly. However, I must say, I’ve learned some fun tidbits of trivia from the radio since we started field work. Like, Oreos have three new flavors now available in stores — cherry cola, piña colada, and kettle corn. Or that the Lamborghini company gave the Pope his very own white Lamborghini with Vatican City-colored detailing and white leather seats, which he’s had for a whole year and not driven. So, he autographed the hood and they’re gonna auction it off for charity. Or, my most recent favorite, that 2% of the population still think the world is flat.  They hold conventions and it’s been decided some sort of teleportation brings ships from one end of ocean to another, rather than just falling off the face of the earth.

Elevator in Nash, ND that’s been in business since 1916 and our farm’s fave.

It also needs to be documented that Peter and I squeezed a date night into the midst of planting season. It’s like we’re some kind of agricultural superheroes! Not really, but we went and watched some real superheroes at the Avengers Infinity War movie. Had popcorn and Buncha Crunch for supper, which is an upgrade from the packed lunches we are both tired of (already). And it was all awesome.

Obligatory date night photo!

Planting docket;

Sugar beets — check!

Wheat — almost check, waiting on a bit of land to dry out to finish them up.

Soybeans — started this week!

Edible beans — next weeks agenda.
