12/26/16 – Edinburgh, Scotland

Lindsey Sterkel

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

Goodness we have been on the run since we’ve gotten here and it’s been a blast!

When we first landed in London it was so foggy, we didn’t get to see much. When we got into the airport we were running through it because we thought we were going to miss our flight to Edinburgh! Luckily, it was delayed about an hour so we didn’t miss it!!

Turk’s mom picked us up and his grandma had a Sunday roast in the oven for when we got there! We had proper Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, gravy, veggies and apple crumble (apples off his mom’s tree in the garden) with custard! Our first day was spent going to holy island which you can only go to when the tide is out! We also went to and inside the Bamburgh castle. Since then we’ve been all over! We’ve been to York, we’ve been clay shooting, seen Turk’s Dad and Diane, Turk showed me where he grew up in Saddleworth, and he got to catch up with some good friends and family. Margaret showed me around St. Mary’s lock, and around Melrose!

We had a wonderful Christmas! Margaret made us a full English breakfast, salmon on toast for lunch and a huge turkey supper! We had a really neat dessert that she lit on fire!

We’ve seen lots and lots of sheep which has been so awesome! And at Satchels (where his mom lives) there are border collie puppies!! They are cute little fluff balls.

I’ve met so many amazingly nice people here from his awesome family to his great friends! It’s been great to put faces to names and to connect all the dots after these past few years.

The funny things I’ve noticed (and even Turk has) is how many “brews” (cups of hot tea) everyone has in a day! There is always time for a brew!! And you need it when it’s chilly and wet outside. Another thing is their lingo! It’s like being bilingual!

While we were in York (which is one of the neatest towns!), we ran into Stu who worked for us this season!!!!! So crazy how small the world is!

I give it to these people who have to play/live in the mud…goodness it is heavy and when it’s cold and blustery I could only imagine you’re ready for sleep by the end of the day. They get covered in mud and all the heavy jackets they wear would wear me out pretty quick! These guys are tough cookies!!

It’s been great to get Turk over here to see everyone. Since he hasn’t been home in four years everyone is so, so glad and excited to see him!

I know I’m missing some details!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas surrounded by friends and family! And if you’re traveling, we wish you safe travels!
