National Ag Day – 2020 Aussie Style

Melissa Kenny – Jonel Farming (Australia)

Today is National Ag Day (November 20) here in Australia and I’ve never felt so blessed to be part of such an important industry.

Our Government has recently introduced a short period of stringent lockdown restrictions across our state in an effort to quickly curb an outbreak of COVID-19.

Schools, takeaway food shops and other retail outlets are closed with only essential services allowed to operate during this time. People are allowed to leave their homes only to access essentials (food and healthcare, etc.) and even exercise outside of the property is not permitted this time around.

Fortunately for us, however, the Government recognizes the need for Agricultural operations to continue.

So, we are permitted to continue with our harvest. Aside from kinder being closed and a few little issues with accessing groceries in the usual manner, we are business as usual and able to continue with our livelihoods. It is so encouraging to have our pursuit recognized as one of our nation’s critical functions.

We plan to take our little ‘circuit breaker’ pause after harvest and lock ourselves down to relax and unwind from this crazy season. For now, though, we are “all systems go” getting our crops off!

Happy National Ag Day everyone…what a wonderful industry we are part of!  🌾
