Kylee DeBock / DeBock Harvesting

The last few years we have stayed in Powers Lake, North Dakota until the semester ends in December. This year, however, we will be heading home this weekend.

We finished cutting soybeans on Saturday, October 2nd around noon. We spent three hours blowing off and cleaning equipment and even got one loaded and ready to head home. Just fifteen minutes after we got the combine loaded, another farmer called wanting some help with flax. It was a small job so Dillon decided to just leave the one combine loaded and they would just cut with one.

Well, it ended up being a struggle the entire day as the combine caught on fire three different times and the fire department had to be called out. None of equipment or crop was lost but definitely not how we wanted to end the season. I guess you have to have bad days to help you appreciate the good days more.

Colston’s last football game was October 4th and even though they didn’t end the season with a win, it was still a great season and we enjoyed watching him play!

On October 8th, Dillon and Karl headed home with the first load of equipment. They didn’t leave till about noon on Friday and made it to Highmore, South Dakota for the night. Surprisingly, they made really great time the next day and got home a little after dark.

The next few days, Dillon helped his dad do some farming and got the drill ready to plant wheat. Normally, we’d have already planted but it has been so dry in Oklahoma that Levi was waiting for some rain.

Since Dillon was gone, I decided to take a trip with my boys. We went to Minot and did some shopping for new basketball shoes and then went to the Badlands PRCA rodeo which was in town for the weekend. There was even a concert after the rodeo that we watched for a bit before heading to our hotel. We enjoyed sleeping in and having a late breakfast at Denny’s before heading back to the camper.

Dillon and Karl are headed back to North Dakota today (October 12th) and we will finish up a few things here and be on the road Friday morning. We are hoping to get home in time for our nephew’s birthday. Cutter is turning four and we haven’t been home for any of his parties, so here’s hoping our travels go well and we get home before the party on Sunday afternoon.

God Bless,

Kylee DeBock
