06/16/16 – Central Kansas

Spring Valley Farms Inc.

Due to the rain the night before, we didn’t start cutting until around 5 pm today. It was kind of a nice break not to have to rush to get stuff done. It also gave my husband and I some time together while we worked together! We unloaded trucks and ran to town to have breakfast and ran errands. I was not only a farmer’s assistant today but an A/C one too! My hubs had to fix one on a rental house we have. While in town, we stopped at Orscheln’s and he got new boots and I had to have the t-shirt pictured! I love to make jam and obviously the grace part comes from the blog! We headed back to the farm.

While he picked up soybeans and put in the drill, I headed to the house to do laundry and clean up around there a bit. Who doesn’t love clean sheets right? Also he needed some work clothes, so it was a must to do laundry! My duties also included mowing the lawn, heading to church to work for an hour or two, and take a nap. The nap was much needed, waking up at 4:00 am isn’t the best thing to do when working in heat more than normal!

I didn’t have to cook today for our small crew. My mother-in-law took on that task, which was nice. I did get a Zucchini cake made later in the night for tomorrow’s meals. I love this cake! Let’s hope I don’t eat the majority myself! Our bins are filling up and that means in a couple of days the trucks will begin hauling to the grain terminal about 4 miles from our home. The unloading will take longer due to lines but the terminal always has a better price.

Life seems to be going along in the hot, humid days. Although there have been adjustments, it’s all good! In the grand scheme of things, we can’t complain and just cherish the time we have with one another! That’s what I’m getting from all of this!

Until tomorrow!
