Lindsey Sterkel – Deibert Harvesting (JKD INC)

We are back in Colby!

We had a great night’s sleep in Philip. I told Turk it’s nice we can move our “house on wheels” and park wherever and still have everything we need (clothes, toothpaste, food, etc).

We got up bright and early and headed south this morning and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better moving day especially since it’s our biggest move. There wasn’t wind, every tire stayed together and cool and all the trucks played the game (including our service trucks that like to throw tantrums on moving days). The guys did an awesome job. We were quite a long convoy today with 18 rigs. I think we counted when we left, so the radio range from the front to the back was a little spotty at times. That was no issue for us, the guys helped relay the messages on and there was awesome teamwork.

I can’t believe the wheat season is already done for us. It has been so awesome seeing these guys work together and learn so much since April. From doing competitions of putting headers into transport mode in the yard before heading to Texas, to doing it a lot faster in the field when getting ready to get down the road. Turk told the guys at the beginning that once we get to North Dakota, they will most likely be loading all this equipment by themselves and I’m not sure how many believed him. When the guys loaded in Scranton, Turk and Jim were both off settling up with farmers and the guys were left to it.

We’ve had so many laughs in the field and I’m sure they have in their campers as well. For example, one time while waiting for the wheat to dry in Texas, it was a hot and humid morning. We were all squished under the go wing of the combine for shade and we convinced Chalmers to pretend to faint in the field to see if a vulture would spot him…he did! The vulture did not come though!

We are happy to have these guys and Kelly (can’t forget our cook!) on our crew! Now, time to make new memories and show the guys a new crop!
