Things are rolling along here in Southwest North Dakota! Harvest is busy but, more often than not, there are variables that a perfect picture doesn’t show.
Things like:
*The weather – from day to day.
*The moisture and readiness of the wheat.
*The price of a bushel of wheat.
*The cost of seeding, planting, spraying and fertilizing.
*The cost of harvesting.
*The cost of moving and transporting the grain from field to bin to elevator to port, and on and on and on….
It is in these things (plus many more depending on the kind of crop) that stress tends to affect everyone – from the farmer, to the harvester, to the consumer.
Agriculture changes considerably every year but it especially has in the last ten years. It still takes land to feed our nation and it still takes people to farm and harvest the land so the product can be used.
God Bless all those out there working in these industries.
In all of our busy, we still need to look at the whole picture.
I have seen leaves turning and the temperatures are simply cooler than normal.
The fall crops need some sun and heat. For most of our state, the forecast is calling for cool nights, chances of light precipitation and not much sun.
The end of the 2019 harvest will be another one-of-a-kind story.
