Lindsey Sterkel – Deibert Harvesting (JKD INC)

We ran into some wet corn.

Yesterday, we got out and the guys continued getting the combines and grain carts ready for the field and I showed Iona all the landmarks so it would be a little easier delivering food to the field.

Got to tag along in the combine for a round!

We got in the field and the outside round was going pretty well! It was staying under 30 for the most part. The feedlot lot will take it up to 32 moisture, but our farmer would like it under 30. Once the combines made a pass through the middle, the moisture started hitting 30 and above so we moved fields. We got three circles at least opened up but ran into high moisture. By six, we had to pull the plug. Today we are going to let things dry out and it’s supposed to be 90 and windy so I think by tomorrow we will be good to be back in the field!!

Caught a spray plane!

The same story for the guys up north in Colby. They kept running into pretty wet corn. They called it quits on Friday and decided to wait to try it again tomorrow.

We are getting to haul to Hitch feeders. What an awesome feedlot it is! It’s so easy to get around the feedlot and if you have any questions, everyone is more than happy to point you in the right direction. Twila is the main lady in charge and goodness she does a great job! She reminds me of a really cool grandma that makes you feel so at home every time you come into the office. They really went out of their way to find different routes so there wasn’t congestion between grain trucks and silage trucks and kept everything rolling.

By five, this is the pile that needed to be ground!

Empty Pit!

The feedlot isn’t full but it can hold up to 52,000 cows. There are three pits that hold 1,000,000 bushel of high moisture corn each and two silage pits (but I’m not sure how much they can hold). We won’t be filling all three pits this year, but they can sure hold a lot of grain.

Yesterday was their first day opening the pits and before five Twila said they already had 71 loads! Not bad for a first day!! It was unreal how the pit started empty and by five they already had ground corn all the way up the back wall and they still had a huge pile of corn to grind.

We really wanted to keep picking but it looks like tomorrow we will be back at it!

Our take on a family supper in Hitchland, TX!

Happy harvesting everyone!!
